A hose is a hose is a hose, but is it a garden hose?
The TUFF-GUARD claims to be “The Perfect Garden Hose.” But is it? Jim Thayer with JGB Enterprises allowed me to decide if his company’s garden hose could take the abuse I usually dish out on regular ol’ garden hoses I use around my yardens year in and year out. Jim suggested that I “beat it up good.”
Upon my initial inspection I found the TUFF-GUARD hose to be quite flexible, almost too flexible. It has a unique coiled type of plastic wrapping around its entire length (“polypropylene double helix construction”) and I suppose this is what makes the hose so flexible, and durable. While using it, I stubbed my toe on it and OUCH! it hurt! So, if you like to go barefoot while using a garden hose, be careful using a TUFF-GUARD.
If you don’t use a hose reel, TUFF-GUARD is a tad bit awkward to coil by hand. I used my TUFF-GUARD before purchasing a hose reel and found it kind of bothersome to coil, so I just let it lay extended, which is okay if you have a place where it’ll be out of the way when you mow.
Father’s Day gave me the chance to ask for, and receive, a hose reel as a gift from my kids. I’d been needing one for some time, but it wasn’t high on my “must have” tools for the garden shed. Since I don’t have an outside faucet, I wanted a portable hose reel, but thereare other good choices for your needs. If you’re wondering what type to get, Jim wrote a nice blog post about buying a hose reel that can help you make the right choice.
As the season has progressed I’ve given the TUFF-GUARD a good work out and it’s done all I’ve asked of it. If you’re thinking about getting a new hose any time soon, I recommend TUFF-GUARD, it’s one tough hose! To find where you can purchase one, click here.

From time to time I get offers to trial gardening products, plants, and tools. If I choose to trial any product I am obligated to offer my readers an honest opinion on whether or not I’d recommend the use of the product in his or her garden or landscape. My evaluation is based on many things: ease of use, price to consumer, quality of product, performance of product as described by manufacturer/nursery/organization or company, and other factors.
